Capt. Wm. J. E. Heard, who commanded a company in Burieson's regiment at San Jacinto. So far as known to the writer, but one of the officers of the general staff at San Jacinto is now living.

Stephen F. Perry, of Brazoria county, a nephew of Stephen F. Austin, whose name he bore.

OCTOBER.

Judge Peter W. Gray, of Houston. In 1841 he was appointed District Attorney to fill a vacancy produced by the death of his father, Wm. Fairfax Gray. Peter W. Gray was a member of the first legislature of Texas, and served on the Judiciary Committee. Soon afterward, he took his seat on the bench as District Judge. During the war he was one of the Texas Representatives in the Confederate Congress. In January, 1874, at the organization of the new Supreme Court, Judge Gray was selected as one one the Associate Justices. After a few weeks service declining health compelled him to relinquish a position for which he possessed such preeminent qualifications.
